UP gets respite from chilly weather, mercury soars
Lucknow, Feb 5 (UNI) Barring few places in western and eastern Uttar Pradesh, an increase in temperature gave some respite to the people from the bitting cold weather prevailing in the State over the last few days.
Night temperature rose appreciably in Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Faizabad and Jhansi divisions overnight.
Allahabad, Lucknow and Bareilly divisions also recorded an increase in the night temperature.
However, temperature at Gorakhpur and Meerut divisions were recorded below normal.
Meerut stood the coldest at 6.4 degrees Celsius, which was two degrees below normal.
Gorakhpur recorded 8.3 degrees, which was three degrees below normal.
The temple town Varanasi and Allahabad registered 14.2 degrees, followed by Jhansi at 11.6, Kanpur 11.4, Behraich 11.3, Bareilly 10.6, Lucknow 10.4 and Agra at 9 degree Celsius.
The weathermen have forecast showers accompained by thunder and lightening for some places of the state in the next 24 hrs.
