Two seriously injured in clashes in Maharashtra

Nashik, Feb 5: Two persons were seriously injured by a mob of 50-60 armed people including a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Corporator Shivaji Chumble and his two brothers, at Vanjarwadi here.

Collection of scrap from the military area is said to be the reason behind the clashes. As per a complaint lodged by one of the injured, Bandu Shinde, Shiv Sena's Vanjarwadi branch chief Ananda Samore had gone into the military area in search of his cattle, on Sunday evening. Around four persons stopped him and beat him asking why he had been there, sources explained.

Following this, Vanjarwadi villagers went to the Chumble house in Gaulane village and asked the reason for beating Mr Samore. Angry over this, Corporator Shivaji Chumble, his brothers Bajirao and Waman along with 50-60 people had come to Vanjarwadi late last evening and pelted stones at the village. They also fired few rounds in the air. They were armed with swords, guns, iron rods and sticks, according to the villagers.

In this attack, one Santu Shinde's cow got bullet injuries. When Bandu Shinde and others tried to calm the mob, they were also beaten with iron rods and sticks. One Dattu Shinde was attacked by swords, who is seriously injured in the incident. Few tribal people's houses were also damaged in the incident.

The incidence has created panic in the area and angry residents demanded immediate action against the attackers. They also threatened of severe agitation in case of failure in action against those responsible for the attack.
