Two killed, 14 children hurt in accidents in Assam
Guwahati, Feb 5 (UNI) Two persons were killed and 14 school children were injured, three of them seriously, in separate road accidents in Assam's Darrang and Sonitpur districts today.
Police said Binoy Roy (55), a truck driver, was killed on the spot when his vehicle hit another truck head-on at Botamari, seven km from Sonitpur headquarters town of Tezpur, in the wee hours today.
In the second incident in Sonitpur district a labourer of a paper mill Udai Narayan Gupta (22) died on the spot when he slipped and fell on the machine belt and his body was pulled in it.
Sources said in another accident in Darrang district, 14 students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Mangaldai, were hurt when their schoolvan hit a tree at Upahupara in Mangaldai town at about 0740 hours. The accident occurred when a rear wheel of the van got loose.
The three seriously injured Nabiullah Ahmed (9), Gaurav Gogoi (10) and Kamal Deka (10), were referred to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, while the other injured were admitted to the Mangaldai civil hospital.
Police said the accident occurred due to negligence of the van owner and driver. The driver has been absconding.
