Kohima, Feb 05 (UNI) Nagaland Governor K Sankaranarayanan, presently the head of the state government under the President's Rule, has directed the law enforcing agencies to stop and discourage all pre-poll violence.
Official sources said here today that the Governor had issued a directive to all the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police, asking them to ensure prompt action for suspension of arms licences and ban the movement of any person with arms, for peaceful, free and fair Assembly elections.
The directive came after the incident at Khar village under Janpetkong Assembly Constituency in Mokokchung district, where houses and vehicles were destroyed by the activists of two rival candidates.
The Governor directed the law enforcing agencies of Mokokchung district to prevent any untoward incident and to ensure tight security to prevent such incidents.
