Srinagar, Feb 5: A red alert has been sounded in the Kashmir valley after snow avalanche damaged a police bark at Jawahar tunnel and some Gujjar huts in Waltengu Nar following heavy snowfall.

Official sources said authorities in the valley have issued avalanche warnings to people living in upper reaches following heavy snowfall since last evening. They said a police bark near Jawahar tunnel on the Srinagar-Jammu nation highway was buried under a huge snow avalanche this morning. However, no casualty was reported as the police personnel had left the bark minutes before a huge snow avalanche came down from near by hill top.

Reports of snow storm and avalanches were also received from Waltengu Nar in south Kashmir district of Anantnag the sources said. A number of Gujjar huts were damaged. However, there was no report of any causality. More than two hundred people were killed during snow storm at Waltengu Nar in February 2005.
