Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 5: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee President Ramesh Chennithala today began a 24-hour hunger strike before the State Secretariat against the price hike of essential commodities and also as part of intensifying the Party's agitation against the CPI(M) led Left Democratic Front Government.
Inaugurating the agitation, Opposition Leader in the state Assembly Oommen Chandy said the government had no time to resolve problems of the people and alleged that there was no governance in the state and only ''land trading'' was going on.
He also said during the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) regime, no strike in the name of price hike of essential commodities was held. The UDF government had effectively brought down the prices, Mr Chandy added.
Various Congress and UDF leaders, party workers and supporters expressed their solidarity with Mr Chennithala. Different trade unions and service organisations associated with the Congress also took out a march to the Secretariat.
