Itangar, Feb 05 (UNI) The Wancho Students Union (WSU) today alleged that underground elements were rampantly abducting Wancho youths in the Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh.

In a statement, the union alleged that about 39 boys had been abducted so far in the district and some of the boys were about six to eight years of age.

The WSU also alleged that the authorities were not doing much in this regard, even after the list of names of the abducted boys was handed over to them by the union.

''It has been 25 days since a complaint has been lodged with the local police station, but there is no action from the administration,'' the union stated.

To lodge its protest against the abductions, the union had planned to organise a mass rally at Longding on February 10, the statement informed.

Meanwhile, the union expressed concern over reports of the Wancho people being arrested in the state capital for alleged links with underground outfits.

Rubbishing the allegations that the Wancho people were supporting the underground elements, the union reasoned that if such was the case, they would have never raised their voice against insurgency, nor would the proposed protest rally have materialised.

''If the step taken by us is considered illegal, then we are ready to face the consequences,'' the union added.
