CISF assistance sought for providing security to Sri Krishna Temple

Udupi, Feb 5: Authorities contemplating to seek assistance from Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for providing security to 800 year old Sri Krishna Temple here following threat revealed by the arrested suspected terrorists in Honnali in Davanagere recently, Sri Sugunendra Thirtha Swamiji of Paryaya Puthige Mutt said today.

Talking to the sources here, he said that top police officials visited the temple and inspected the present security arrangements and discussed the issue with him and it was decided to provide a foolproof security by engaging 48 personnel from CISF.

According to the proposal sent by the district police to the temple authorities, there would be additional expenses of around Rs 15 lakh to the temple for providing full security which included installation of 48 hidden cameras in and around the temple alarm system and metal detectors besides erecting barricades and prevention walls to close the entry from any other point except from the main entry point in front of the temple, he added.

At present there was only on metal detector at the entrance point of the temple with 12 security personnel on duty.

The pontiff said that the internal security arrangements inside the temple would be made by the temple with the assistance from CISF and the security arrangement outside the temple would be made with the active cooperation and assistance from the district police. Now all visitors coming to the temple were made to pass through the metal detector installed at the entrance of the temple and all the luggage were thoroughly searched, he added.
