Centre asks Advani to take precaution
New Delhi, Feb 5 (UNI) The Centre has asked BJP leader L K Advani to ''take precaution'' and share all the information about his ''programmes'' with security agencies concerned and state governments during the Sankalp Yatra to ensure his security in view of the threat perception.
Though refusing to comment on media reports about National Security Advisor M K Narayanan's meeting with Mr Advani and advising him to defer his yatra in view of the renewed threat a Home Ministry spokesman said the MHA regularly reviews security arrangements in respect of VIPs and others in the light of the threat perception and inputs received from time to time. Based on the same, appropriate security arrangements are made and advisories issued.
''Protectees are also advised to take due precaution during their programmes and also share information about their programmes with security agencies concerned and state governments. This is a normal procedure which is being followed and action taken accordingly.'' Earlier, the Home Ministry held a high level meeting to discuss the security of Mr Advani and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi following intelligence reports about terror organisations attacking the two BJP leaders. Mr Advani, the Prime Ministerial candidate of the BJP, at present enjoys a very high security cover.
The Ministry had asked the Gujarat Government to upgrade the security of Mr Modi following the intelligence reports.
Meanwhile, the BJP said Mr Advani will go ahead with the inagural rally of Sankalp Yatra at Jabalpur tomorrow as per the schedule despite intelligence agencies advising him against the the Yatra. The party said such information would be taken into cognisance but the programme would continue.
