AIADMK stages demo over effluent discharge

Tiruchirapalli, Feb 5: Activists of the Moffusil District of the AIADMK staged a demonstration in front of a private sugar factory at Kattur, near here today.

Led by former AIADMK minister and party Tiruchirapalli district secretary K K Balasubramanium, they protested the DMK Government's failure to take action against the sugar factory for letting out the liquid waste, affecting ground water and farm lands.

Former minister and AIADMK Propaganda secretary M Thambidurai, who took part in the demonstration claimed that due to discharge of 'poisonous' effluent by the sugar factory 5,000 acres of wet tands were affected and more than 50,000 villagers in and around Kattur were suffering from various diseases.

If the DMK Government failed to take suitable action against the sugar factory, the AIADMK would intensify the stir, he warned.
