Indore, Feb 4 (UNI) Webdunia.com, India's first multi-language Internet portal, has been awarded the Aksharam Information Technology Award during the valedictory session of the 6th International Hindi Conference at New Delhi.
Organised in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Sahitya Akademi and Uttar Pradesh Language Institute, the conference attracted over 400 academicians, linguists, writers, poets and editors.
The award was presented to Webdunia President and Chief Operating Officer Pankaj Jain last night for the portal's singular contribution to development of Indian languages, especially Hindi among Indians on the worldwide web and other platforms.
Headquartered here, Webdunia development centres operate from here, Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram.
Speaking about Webdunia's aspiration to become the country's largest portal, Mr Jain said, ''Webdunia will continue to launch initiatives to meet emerging needs of Indian language-loving netizens.'' In a session on 'Hindi and Information Technology' organised as part of the three-day world congress, Webdunia's Chief Content Officer Jaideep Karnik said, ''Webdunia has achieved a major technology breakthrough by migrating to Unicode. As a result nine portals are accessible on virtually any computer without downloading language fonts.''
