This is the first visit of Ms Gandhi after former Chief Minister and veteran leader K Karunakaran returned to the Congress Party.

The main engagement of Ms Gandhi during the visit will be the inauguration of a new four-storey office building of the Thiruvananthapuram District Congress Committee (DCC) at Palayam in the city on February 15. The 17,000 sq ft building, named ''Swathantriya Samara Smriti Bhavan'', would have an auditorium and a museum on the history of India's freedom struggle, DCC President and former MP, V S Sivakumar told UNI.

Ms Gandhi, who would arrive in Kochi on February 14, would attend a function there in the evening. She would also attend a few private functions before inaugurating the DCC office the next day.

The UPA Chairperson would visit the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology at Poojappura in Thiruvananthapuram. The premier bio-technology institute was taken over by the Centre early last year. Ms Gandhi would leave for New Delhi on the evening of February 15 after addressing a public rally at the Central Stadium.
