JD(U) asks Maharashtra govt to act to prevent MNS violence
New Delhi, Feb 4 (UNI) Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav today condemned the street violence against North Indians instigated by Maharashtra Nav Nirman Sena and asked the state administration to act firmly to prevent any future violence.
Charging the state administration of complicity in the violence, Mr Yadav said in a statement here, ''It is surprising that police stood by inactively while MNS hoodlums attacked North Indian taxi drivers, roadside vendors and passers by. A mere statement by the Chief Minister will not wash the obvious complicity of his administration and police in the violence on the North Indians. His administration should act and prevent any future violence.'' He said the violence should be condemned by all those who stand for democracy, inclusive nature of Indian nationhood and the Constitution. Asserting that MNS is trying to resurrect a ghost of the past while the nation has moved forward, the Janata Dal (U) appealed to all concerned not to fall prey to any provocation.
The said the free movement of people of all states including Maharashtra to other states of India has enhanced national integration and development of India. The destructive designs of people like Raj Thackeray who want to become leaders on the basis of sectarian slogans should be defeated, he added.
