Jaipur, Feb 3 (UNI) The All India Democratic Women's Organisation(AIDWO), a CPI(M) frontal organisation, today alleged that the UPA government at the Centre has failed to control price rise and keep its commitment for strengthening of the Public Distribution System(PDS).

Talking to reporters here organisation president and former MP Subhashini Ali said contrary to its commitment, the UPA government had worked on "anti poor policies" and failed to strengthen the PDS for smooth and adequate distribution of food grains and other essential commodities to BPL(Below Poverty Line) and APL (Above Poverty Line) ration card holders.

Ms Ali said the present government had not only failed to provide ration cards to over 80 per cent of the BPL famlies but it also curtailed states quota of wheat for distribution through the PDS.

She alleged that the government also wanted to hike the price of wheat to APL ration card holders but the left parties determined stand had averted the bid of a hike.

Ms Ali, who was in the town to participate in the organisation's Rajasthan state executive's meeting, also expressed her concern over the rising trend in the prices of essential commodities.

She also deplored about the prevailing malpractice of female foeticide and said despite legal curbs the evil practice was still on a rising trend.

Ms Ali said in protest against the UPA government's "anti poor" and "anti women" policies, her organisation would hold a huge demonstration in New Delhi on March 4.

A large number of women activists from different states would participate in the demonstration, she added.
