Imphal, Feb 3 : With each passing day and with each acts of brutality committed by the militant groups in Manipur, the people's resistance against them is also growing stronger.
People in Kha-Sanjembam village recently came out on streets to protest against the underground groups for killing two contractors, who were involved in building the basic infrastructure in the area.
"If these types of activities continue, Manipur will remain as slaves. While all the other states are developing, our state will lag behind other states." said Inaobi Devi, a villager.
L Sanamani Singh, assistant teacher, added: "Please don't kill simple citizens in our village and state. We just want peace and it is my last word."
One of the contractors L Ibosana, who was killed, was the founder of Diamond Academic School in the village.
"Not only my family has lost him, the whole village has lost him. He was committed to various developmental works and welfare of the public. He never indulged in any anti-social activities," said Bheigyabati Devi, victim's mother.
Umabati Devi, victim's wife added: " I want to avenge my husband's death in such a way that militants should tell me on my face the reason for the killing. I will challenge them to kill me if they have guts."
Children from the Diamond Academic School also came out to protest against the killing.
H Khaba Singh, principal of the Diamond Academy, said, "Our country is a peaceful country. But our Manipur is in a bad condition. I want peace."
In the last one-month, militants have forced the closure of a school, two hospitals and a national bank.
Insurgent organizations of late have resorted to making demands from various institutions including banks and schools. This has caused anger among the people, who can't lead a normal life.
As a result, people have started mobilizing themselves to stand firm against the underground groups who in the past enjoyed people's support.
People want the government to act tough but despite many assurances the attitude of the government. This has led, people in forming their own committees and joint action group to deal with the most dangerous menace in Manipuri society.
