KSG urges Centre to dismiss Govt
Puducherry, Feb 3: The Karaikal Struggle Group(KSG) had urged the Union Government to dismiss the Congress Government in the Union Territory, since it became defunct, following revolt by all the five ministers against Chief Minister N Rangasamy.
In a memorandum forwarded to the Union Home Minister, Shivaraj Patil, yesterday, KSG Convenor Selvashanmugham said the official machinery in Karaikal region was paralysed, following confrontation between Mr Rangasamy and the ministers.
Mr Selvashanmugham alleged that people's requirements in Karaikal were being neglected by the administration and farmers and fishermen, who form the major sections of the population in the region, were suffering due to discrimination meted out by the Government.
The administration failed to provide relief to the farmers affected in the recent rains, while the Tamil Nadu Government took the initiative to take stock of the damages caused by the rain, following a visit by the Central team to the State, he added.
He alleged that the paddy from the Karaikal farmers were being purchased at a low cost, while it is on the higher side in Tamil Nadu.
The KSG had been demanding separate Union Territory status for Karaikal to set right the imbalances in development of the region, compared to other regions, he said.
