Kochi, Feb 3 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Labour Oscar Fernandes today urged the student community to take up research work in different areas as India was facing shortage of research scholars.
Addressing a gathering after inaugurating 'The Annual Change Management Lecture Series' at St Albertian Institute of Management here, Mr Fernandes said '' India, compared to China, had less research scholars and this situation was not good for the country.'' '' When we produce one doctorate, China had 10 and if this persists, the neighbouring country will go ahead in all spheres of economic competition in the future,'' Mr Fernandes said.
He said India and China were emerging economies and in the next 15 years both the countries would have majority share in the world trade.
India had the potential to compete with countries like the US and UK in terms of quality and pricing in the world trade, he added.
The Minister said the US economy was collapsing and this had an adverse effect on the world trade.
Mr Fernandes said the Centre was chalking out policies to provide social security to 94 per cent of people, who were working in the unorganised sector.
The policies, include providing health insurance cover, employment generation to partially-employed agricultural farmers, pension and bonus, he added.
