DMDK member injured following attack by DMK partymen

Puducherry, Feb 3 (UNI) A J Asana, Assistant State Secretary of DMDK, was injured when a group of people, said to be the supporters of DMK Karaikal Convenor A M H Nazeem, MLA, attacked his party office in Karaikal early today.

According to reports reaching the State headquarters here, the group attacked the party office at 0130 hours and Mr Asana, who sustained head injuries was admitted to the Karaikal Government Hospital.

Based on a complaint by Mr Siva, a supporter of Mr Asana, police registered cases under section 147, 148, 448, 524, 336 of the IPC against one Srinivasan and 49 others.

Meanwhile, Mr Srinivasan had also lodged a complaint against Mr Asana and others and cases were registered against them by the police.

Prohibitory orders were promulgated under section 30(2) of the Police Act in the region for seven days from today in the wake of the clash, the sources said.

Even though the exact cause for the attack was not known, it was being persumed that political rivalary was the reason behind the incident.

It may be noted that Mr Asana was the immediate rival to Mr Nazeem in the last Assemby election at Karaikal constituency and the latter managed to win by a margin of only 33 votes.
