Two ancient temples discovered in Thane
Thane, Feb 2 (UNI) Two temples of the ancient period, one belonging to the Lord Shiv, were discovered by the villagers at Gunj village of Wada taluka today.
It was during the visit to nearby Parshuram temple on the hillock, the villagers stumbled upon these two abandoned and ruined temples.
Senior leader of the BJP from the district, Om Prakash Sharma who has undertaken the task of renovation of the Parshuram temple in the taluka, said he was on his way up the hills to visit the temple of Parshuram when he learnt of these two ruined temples.
In one of the ruined temples they have found the 'Pindh' of Lord Shiv, indicating the existence of the temple years ago. A visit to the interior of the jungle in the village revealed that the entrance to the temple had the carvings of several Gods and Goddesses in the front panel.
Idol of the God in the second temple could not be identified. The villagers claimed that the temple originally belonged to Renuka Mata, mother of Lord Parshuram. It was raided by Chimaji Appa, in 1732. The stones with beautiful carvings are scattered making it difficult for villagers to recognise it.
The villagers have demanded a proper construction of road in order to make the temples accessible and also renovate the same for the common people.
