Kolkata, Feb 2 (UNI) The electoral understanding of the CPI(ML- Liberation) with the Forward Bloc in the coming Tripura Assembly election has marked a beginning of an alternative Left unity theory barring the CPI(M).
CPI(ML-Liberation) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharjee told newsmen here today said earlier the CPI(ML) had announced a list of 15 candidates in the Tripura Assembly election, but after the electoral understanding with the FB, the party had decided to withdraw one of its candidates in favour of the former and now two parties will contest 25 seats.
" We have welcomed the electoral understanding reached between the state units of the CPI(ML-L) and FB and it has marked the beginning of an alternative Left unity theory, " he said.
He alleged that the way the CPI(M) had treated one of its long-standing Front partners smacked of the former's high-handed attitude.
He also said it had only reinforced the need for an alternative unity of the Left parties, based on mututal respect and shared commitment to the people and their aspirations and struggle.
The CPI(ML) would participate in the coming Panchayat election.
He also said the party would explore possibilities of developing political cooperation with like-minded Left and democratic forces wherever possible.
