Bhubaneswar, Feb 2(UNI) The Orissa government has suspended a Reader of a women's College in Cuttack and author of a Political Science book for Plus three students for describing the BJP, Bajrang Dal and RSS as terrorist organisations promoting communal violence in the country.
The government took the issue seriously yesterday and placed under suspension Shyama Charan Mohanty, one of the co-authors of the book and a reader of the Sailabala Women's College, Cuttack.
The government, official sources here said, also decided to initiate disciplinary proceedings under Pension Rule against Amarendra Mohanty, the other author, who had retired as Head of the Political Science Department of Ravenshaw College, Cuttack.
The Book 'Indian Polity', prescribed as a text book for Plus three students, had equated the BJP, Shiv Sena,Bajrang Dal and RSS with terrorist outfits like Lasker-e-Toiba.
Irate members of the Sangha Parivar burnt copies of the book at various places in the state during the past few days and staged protest demonstrations demanding action against the authors.
Some of the members had also submitted memorandum to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Higher Education Minister Samir Dey urging them to take strong action against the writers and Publisher of the book.
The government also decided to set up a committee to scrutinise and approve books before they are prescribed for the students to prevent derogatory remarks against political parties and freedom fighters.
Earlier, Netaji Subash Chandra Bose was described as a 'fake' nationalist leader and Bhagat Singh as a 'terrorist' in two different books meant for school students.
Meanwhile, the Higher Education department has sought the opinion of the law department and was examining the action to be taken against the authors. The Publisher of the book had already tendered an unconditional apology for the mistake and withdrawn the books from the market with the promise that the corrected versions would be soon published.
