Shimla, Feb 2 (UNI) Power generation in Bhava, Ghanvi, Nogli and Chaba hydel projects in Himachal Pradesh have been affected due to freezing of all water sources following extreme cold conditions during this winter season.
The power generation in the 120 MW Sanjay hydel project in Kinnuar district of the state has fallen to 27 MW following a decrease in the water in the khud, official sources, requesting anonymity, told UNI here.
They said water availability in the khud had fallen to 3.8 cumecs only and the hydel authorities were resorting to collecting water to increase power generation at times.
Similarly, electricity generation in the 22.5 MW Ghanvi hydel project in Shimla district had fallen to 3.8 MW, while 2.5 MW Nogli project was generating only one MW electricity during the season, they said.
The sources said power generation in the 1.75 MW Chaba project had plummeted to 550 from 600 KW during this winter season after natural water sources froze due to extreme cold conditions.
The fall in generation has affected supply of power in the adjoining areas where as the state electricity board was resorting to cuts, the sources added.
They said the power situation was likely to improve with the increase in the temperatures and melting of snow in the higher altitude areas of the state.
