Hafed to provide storage space at concessional rates

Chandigarh, Feb 2 (UNI) Hafed has launched a Commercial Warehousing Scheme' to provide vacant covered space to member farmers and traders on concessional charges.

While stating this here today, Haryana Agriculture Minister H S Chatha said that Hafed had floated the scheme for storage of the wheat, paddy and rice on concessional storage charges and the interest on the loan amount would be given to the depositors.

Mr Chatha said that under the scheme Hafed would charge storage charges at the rate of Rs 2.50 per quintal per month on the stock of paddy and rice received from the private traders and would charge interest at the rate of Rs 10 per cent annually on loan on monthly basis.

He said that with a view to help the farmers HAFED had also adopted a scheme to charge less interest from the farmers on the storage on their produce. Under this scheme, HAFED would charge at the rate of Rs 2 per quintal per month besides the interest on the loan would be charged at the rate of Rs 7 per cent annually.

The Agriculture Minister said that the state government had constructed godowns of 65560 MT capacity to meet the growing requirement of keeping the foodgrains safe.

He said that godowns of 33000 MT of capacity were under construction in the state which included 15000 MT capacity godown at Naval, 5000 MT capacity of godowns each at Indri and Ghasola and 8000 MT capacity of godowns at Rohtak.
