Itanagar, Feb 2 (UNI) The Central Information Commission (CIC) has ordered a special investigation into the corruption charges levelled against North East Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) director Kalyan Kumar.
Official sources said here today CIC joint secretary and additional registrar L C Singhi would be visiting the institution here early this month to start the probe.
Earlier Banji Patir, an estranged employee of the institute, had asked for certain documents, allegedly pertaining to corruption by the director, under the provisions of RTI.
However, the authorities not only refused to provide the documents but threatened Mr Patir of dire consequences and finally suspended him from the service.
In a third hearing on January 21, CIC commissioner O P Kejariwal observed that the persistent refusal for disclosure of documents proved that the director wanted to hide his misdeeds.
Mr Patir has alleged that Prof Kumar had misappropriated over Rs two lakhs through a false bill and brought the case to the CIC.
Meanwhile, the CIC has ordered the authorities to provide a copy of the fact finding committee set up to investigate into the case by February 8.
