AMU to protest next month for justice to Mumbai riots victims
Aligarh, Feb 2 (UNI) The Millat Bedari Muhim Committee (MBMC) and Intellectuals' Forum for Secular Democracy (IFSD), a community of Aligarh Muslim University, has announced to protest next month at New Delhi, if the guilty in the Mumbai 1992-93 riots are let-off after an affidavit filed by the Maharashtra government.
The affidavit filed in the Supreme court by Vilas Rao Deshmukh -led Maharashtra government in connection with 1992-93 Mumbai riots stated ''if action against the guilty, particularly Bal Thackeray, is taken after such a long gap, it might instigate communal violence and would serve no purpose of justice.'' In a joint press conference here, the office bearers of IFSD and MBMC said no one should be treated above law. '' If the Deshmukh Governemnt plea is accepted it will encourage communal elements,'' they added.
The committees had called upon the UPA government to take a clear stand and demanded exemplary punishment for the culprits of Mumbai riot censuring Deshmukh government.
The affidavit had sent shock waves to the Muslim community and the Deshmukh government might face hard time for the same in near future.
The dharna will be held at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi in the second week of March.
