Chennai, Feb 2 (UNI) The Opposition AIADMK will observe a token fast on February 4 to protest the DMK Government stopping extension of subsidy for green tea to growers of Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu.
AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa, in a statement here today, said the agitated tea growers of the district were resorting to stirs and sought the party's support for their agitation.
She recalled that her previous Government had paid subsidy twice to the growers when the price of green tea dipped in the district.
Ms Jayalalithaa said the fast was also to condemn the Centre's new order regarding minimum support price for tea and the State Government for not heeding the demand of Coonoor people for a crematorium and not setting right the unhygienic conditions.
The fast, to be led by former Minister and Jayalalithaa Peravai Secretary N Thalavai Sundaram, would be observed at the MGR Thidal at Nilgiris.
