New Delhi, Feb 1 (UNI) The world will celebrate 'Wetland Day' tomorrow with the theme this year being ''Healthy Wetlands, Healthy People''.
February 2 marks the anniversary of the adoption of the international Convention on Wetlands at Ramasar in Iran in 1971.
Since then over a thousand wetlands have been protected by governments under the convention.
Wetlands are home to numerous forms of wildlife and an important source of natural resources (e g clean water, rice, vegetable, medicine).
The Convention on Wetlands covers all aspects of wetland conservation for biodiversity and human use.
The main aim of the Ramsar Convention is the sustainable use of wetlands all over the world.
A "Drawing for Wetland Conservation" Competition has been organised all over the world this year. The students will present their creativity and idea on wetland conservation through this comptetion.
