Woman killed in fire, five others in road mishaps
Aizawl, Feb 1(UNI) At leat six people, including two women, met an unnatural death in the past 24 hours in Mizoram.
A 42-year-old woman was burnt to death when her house at Zonuam locality here was engulfed by fire early today, police said.
The charred body of Mrs Lalhmachhuani was recovered at around 5 AM after the fire gutted the two-storey Assam-type house, sources said. The ground floor of the building housed a furniture workshop and a poultry shed and it was believed that the fire started from here. The fire was first detected by a neighbour who immediately woke up the house owners. After running out of the house, the woman and her husband went back into the flaming house to get their valuables. When the woman was in the bedroom, power supply went off and fire engulfed her, eyewitnesses said.
Meanwhile, five people died in three accidents in different places of Mizoram yesterday.
A truck handyman and his colleague,both residents of Aizawl, died when the rice-laden truck they were travelling in met with an accident between Seling and Aizawl.
An 83-year-old woman died at the Lunglei hospital after she was hit by an auto-rickshaw.
Two men, both residents of Aizawl, died in another road accident near Khawruhlian village yesterday, police said.
