Week-long training camp for Malaysia bound U-19 team begins

Bangalore, Feb 1 (UNI) A week-long training camp for Indian Under-19 squad to take part in the World Cup competition to be played in Malaysia from February 17, began at the National Cricket Academy(NCA) here today.

The upcoming stars began training under the close watch of the newly appointed Under-19 coach Dave Whatmore, who is also the Director (Operations) of NCA here.

The players, soon after their arrival at the NCA yesterday, were subjected to dope and bone test by doctors from Sports Authority of India (SAI) Southern Centre here and the test report would be sent to Delhi for verification.

During the camp, the players would also play a few practice matches under floodlights.

India takes on lowly Papua New Guinea in their first match on February 17 at Kuala Lumpur.

In the last edition, India finished runners up going down to Pakistan by 38 runs in the final played in Sri Lanka. It had won the World Cup in 2000 under Mohammad Kaif.

Following is the squad: Virat Kohli (Capt), Manish Pandey, Pradeep Sangwan, Taruwar Kohli, Abhinav Mukund, Tanmay Srivastav, Saurabh Tiwary, Shreevats Goswami, Ravindra Jadeja, D Sivakumar, Iqbal Abdullah, Siddharth Kaul, Einstein Napoleam, Ajitesh Agarwal and Perry Goyal.
