Airlines may hike fares to offset losses

Affected
by
rising
fuel
prices,
the
aviation
industry
is
planning
to
introduce
a
'differential
fuel
surcharge" based
on
VAT
rates
in
each
state
to
partially
make
up
for
the
losses
suffered.
The idea was mooted during an all-India civil aviation meet attended by ministers and senior officials from various states. Airlines need to cover the cost of aviation turbine fuel or ATF in order to survive.
