Shillong, Feb 01: Another legislator in Meghalaya, Pynshai Manik Syiem from Mylliem constituency, has resigned from the Assembly yesterday ahead of the March third elections.

Mr Syiem, who was elected for three consecutive terms as an Independent, quit the 60-member House following his decision to contest the Assembly polls on a Nationalist Congress Party ticket.

With his resignation, the strength of the Assembly has reduced to 57. Earlier two legislators had also resigned from the Assembly.

Meanwhile, Congress MLA Nidhu Ram Hajong from Mahendraganj constituency had resigned from the primary membership of the party after being denied a ticket.

Mr Hajong has decided to fight the election as an Independent candidate.
