93,385
units
in
January
2008
against
121,147
units
for
the
corresponding
period
of
the
previous
year.
The silver lining for the company for the month came through exports, which witnessed 86 per cent growth with as many as 13,108 two wheelers shipped as against 7,049 units during the corresponding period of the previous year. During the month the company's motorcycle sales dipped steeply to touch 38,961 units in comparison to 69,634 units sold in January 2007. In the scooter segment, TVS Scooty reported 18,594 units in January 2008 in comparison to 20,534 units in the corresponding period, the previous year.
Over the next two months, the company plans to launch several new products into the market including a new entry level StaR Sport to overcome the hurdle of restricted availability of retail finance, high rates of interest and stringent norms followed by financiers.
These launches, planned both in the two and three wheeler segments was a concerted effort to provide more options for customers and thereby enable the company to leverage a larger product range, the company said in a release here.
The company was also working on new technologies involving alternate fuels and alternate energy and was expected to bring out products using these new technologies during the next fiscal.
The new StaR Sport motorcycle would come with best of class mileage and reliability. The company would also launch the new Scooty Teenz Electric and the Apache RTR Efi. TVS Motor Company would also make its foray into the three-wheeler market.
