Kolhapur, Feb 1 (UNI) Students of Municipal Primary schools in the city today marched shirtless to the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation's (KMC) main office here demanding school uniforms.
The 'Morcha' held under the banner of All India Students Federation (AISF), started from Bhavani Mandap grabbing the attention of people on its way.
AISF district unit President Sushil Lad, who led the 'Morcha', met KMC Standing Committee Chairman Sunil Modi and submitted a memorandum regarding the issue.
In the memorandum, he stated that on behalf of the Primary School Board, children from poor families were being provided uniforms, but were deprived of it for the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 academic years.
KMC officials had earlier assured that they would provide the uniforms before January 26, but had failed to do the same, he said.
Mr Modi assured that school uniforms will be provided to the children within 15 days and necessary action will be taken against the officials responsible for the delay.
