SC issues notice to Bibi Jagir Kaur on bail plea
New Delhi, Feb 1 (UNI) The Supreme Court today issued notice to former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Bibi Jagir Kaur and another on a petition seeking cancellation of bail granted to her by a trial court in March 2001 for the alleged murder of her daughter Harpreet Kaur.
It was alleged that Bibi Kaur was annoyed with her daughter for getting married to petitioner Kanwalgit Singh who did not belong to her community.
A bench, comprising Justices Ashok Bhan and Dalveer Bhandari issued notices after hearing counsel for the petitioner who contended that free and fair trial is not possible if Bibi Kaur remained a free person as she has tremondous clout both political as well as in the Sikh community and the possibility of Bibi Kaur trying to intimidate the witnesses cannot be ruled out.
Her daughter was found dead under mysterious on April 21, 2000.
