Pre-poll violence hits Mokokchung dist
Kohima, Feb 1 (UNI) At least 18 houses and 16 vehicles were damaged in a pre-poll violence in Longkhum and Alichen villages under Koridang Assembly constituency in Mokokchung district.
Official sources today here said a group of supporters of T C Longcher, an intending candidate, reached Alichen village yesterday and allegedly damaged a bus and eight houses belonging to the supporters of former Minister Imkong L Imchen.
The group later proceeded to Longkhum village and damaged another ten houses of the supporters of Imchen.
In retaliation, the supporters of Imchen reportedly assembled and damaged 16 vehicles.
On receiving information, the district administration deployed Nagaland Armed Police and Indian Reserve Battalion personnels to thwart any further violence and maintain law and order.
Sources said tension prevailed in the area, but situation is under control.
