By Staff

Mumbai, Feb 1 (UNI) Last year's runner-up team Central Railway eked out a narrow 1-0 victory over State Bank of India, while Century Rayon outplayed RBI 3-1, in the sixth KSA All-India veterans football tournament that began at the KSA ground, here today.

Four-time hockey Olympian Dhanraj Pillay, turning out for State Bank, dazzled the goodly crowd of spectators with his speedy runs and ball control, but he failed when it came to scoring.

Pillay missed two clear chances at goal in the first ten minutes and in the 12th minute Narendra Karanjekar of Central Railway kicked straight into the hands of the former international goal-keeper Bhaskar Maity.

After the goalless first half, Asiaf Jamal connected well with his head a pass from the right flank by Nicholas Mendes to score the only goal of the match.

In the other match of the day, Century Rayon scored thrice after a goalless first half, with Ratish scoring a brace and Dennis Creado completing the tally. Century Rayon's goals came after Rahul Shinde had given RBI the lead early in the second session.

Results: Central Railway 1 (Asif Jamal) beat State Bank of India 0; Century Rayon 3 (Ratish 2, Dennis Creado 1) beat RBI 1 (Rahul Shinde); KSA XI (BLUE) 0 drew with MTNL 0.
