Kolkata, Feb 1 (UNI) The India International Mega Trade Fair-08 is expected to mop up Rs 500 crore business within the next nine days, Bharat Chamber of Commerce president P R Agarwal stated.

The fair, the fourth edition, presented by Bharat Chamber of Commerce and organised by G S Marketing Associates, was being held more as an encouragement to trade and industrial prospects in West Bengal rather than being a profit-making venture, Mr Agarwala said.

More than 300 companies from across the country and abroad were using the mega fair as a platform to showcase, launch and popularise their products and services.

The companies had displayed their wares in the seven centrally air-conditioned hangers ranging from home appliances, furniture, decor, electronics to lifestyle products.

Pakistan and Bangladesh had also taken part in the 10-day fair, which will remain open from 1100 to 2000 hours everyday till February 10.

Booking of ownership flats at different locations was also being taken up as a host of developers and promoters had opened their stalls.

The fair, first held at Kolkata Maidan in 2004, had been shifted to 3.5 lakh sq ft ground of Science City on Eastern Bypass, and is expected to have five lakh visitors, he informed.

West Bengal Legislative Assembly Speaker Hasim Abdul Halim, who inaugurated the fair, said the government was doing its best to set up all types of industries, adding this fair would give a fillip to industrialisation of the state.

He said it was the pride of West Bengal that the world's smallest ever car "Nano" would roll out from a factory in the state.
