Bangalore, Feb 1(UNI) Janata Dal (United) Karnataka president B Somasekhar today stressed the need for launching a mass movement for restoration of value-based politics in public life.
Speaking at a seminar on the role of intelligentsia in restoration of value-based politics in public life here, he said the degeneration of values was creeping even in judiciary and media making the society more vulnerable to exploitation by corrupt elements.
Stating that there was a lack of leaders with an universal appeal, he said the present generation of leaders like to identify themselves with one group, caste or creed resulting in further fragmentation of the society.
JD (U) believes in value-based politics and not 'rally-based' politics, he said adding there was a need for launching a mass movement like the one that was taken up by Jayaprakash Narayan.
