New Delhi, Feb 1 : Interpol on Friday issued warrants against the two key accused in the multi-million kidney transplant scam, Amit Kumar and his brother, Jeevan Rawat, who are suspected to have fled the country.

The 'red corner' notices were issued following request from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Amit, 40, and Jeevan, 36, are the subject of "national arrest warrants for illegal transplanting of kidneys, cheating and criminal conspiracy," the global police body said.

Alleged kingpin Amit and Jeevan have allegedly escaped to Canada shortly before the police conducted raids at their properties in Gurgaon, and at other places across the country.

Earlier, the Haryana Police had discovered an illegal hospital being run from a house in Gurgaon where the transplants were allegedly carried out.

Police have sealed Amit's six properties in Gurgaon and eight bank accounts.

Kumar, dubbed as "Dr Horror" by the media for allegedly supplying hundreds of kidneys bought or coerced from poor donors, was reportedly running the operation partly from an unknown location in Canada, where his family is said to be living.

It is suspected that at least 500 transplants would have been conducted as part of the racket with most of the victims hailing from Meerut, Ghaziabad and Moradabad districts of Uttar Pradesh.
