Journalist nabbed for impersonating as minister's kin

Ferozepur, Feb 1 (UNI) The Jalalabad police have booked a senior press correspondent of a daily vernacular and her assistant for impersonating as a family member of Public Relations minister, Punjab, Bikramjit Singh Majithia here today.

According to police sources, Deepti Baboota, a senior journalist, representing a leading vernacular daily newspaper and her assistant, Raman Sharma has been booked under section 420, 467, 468, 120-B by the police on the direction of the SSP, Ferozepur.

Sources said Babloo Baboota, husband of Deepti Baboota, few days back, had an altercation with a local advocate. Following that a case, based on the Medico Legal Report of both the party were registered in the local police station.

Deepti Baboota had allegedly made a call to the Ferozepur SSP, claiming that she was family member of Mr Majithia and wanted favour from him in the case against her husband, they said.

The SSP however, traced the mobile phone to Raman Sharma, an assistant of Deepti Baboota, who upon being interrogated reportedly confessed that Deepti Baboota had used his mobile while making calls to Ferozepur SSP, posing as Relative of Bikramjit Singh Majethia.

On the statement of Raman Sharma, a case under section 420, 467, 468, 120-B IPC has been registered against Deepti and Raman at the Jalalabad city police station and further investigations in the case was on, the sources said.
