India thrashed 0-3 by OZ, relegated to Group II

By Staff

Bangkok, Feb 1 (UNI) The absence of the injured Sania Mirza continued to hurt India as they were thrashed 3-0 by Australia in their third and final Federation Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group I tie, here today.

India have now been relegated to Group II.

In the first singles, Isha Lakhani was downed 6-3, 4-6, 1-6 by Jessica Moore while Sunitha Rao was defeated 3-6, 5-7 by Casey Dellacqua.

Sunitha and Shikha Uberoi also failed to make any impact in the inconsequential doubles tie as they went down 7-6 (2), 6-0 to the Aussie pair of Dellacqua and Rennae Stubbs.

India had earlier lost to Indonesia and New Zealand in their previous group matches.

In other group matches, Taiwan defeated Thailand 3-0, New Zealand blanked Indonesia 3-0, while Uzbekistan thrashed Hong Kong 2-1.
