Four-day Rankala festival to start from Feb 14

Kolhapur, Feb 1 (UNI) Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has organised 'Rankala festival at the city's famous tourist point Rankala lake garden, from February 14 onwards.

Speaking to reporters here today, Kolhapur Mayor Sai Kharade and KMC Standing Committee Chairman Sunil Modi said KMC is making efforts to pick-up this annual Rankala festival at the national level through a qualitative system.

On the opening day of the festival, a ''chitrarath'' (pictorial) procession with Kolhapur traditional arts display besides lezheem, zhanjpathak, dhanagari dhol and police band will be taken through the city, starting from famous historical Khasbag Arena to Rankala lake, they informed.

The festival will open with the performance of famous play-back singer Mahalaxmi Iyar.

Marathi artists ''Kalarjani'' programme will be held on February 15, while on February 16 famous pop singer Kunal Ganjawala will perform and famous ''tal vadhy'' artist Touphit Kureshi's programme will be followed by ''Nache Mayuri'' fame cine-star Sudha Chandran's programme on last day, they added.
