Pudukkottai (Tamil Nadu), Feb 1: The Coastal Security Police here have cautioned fishermen of the district against trespassing into Sri Lankan waters considering their safety.
Police sources said they also advised the fishermen to carry identity cards issued by the Fisheries Department while venturing into the sea. They should produce documents such as licence and RC book during questioning by Coast Guard and other security agencies.
As information had been received on the Sri Lankan Army having taken precautionary measures against any infiltration by militants, the fishermen should confine their fishing activity within the Indian territorial waters.
Fishermen have been asked to alert the police about suspicious movements of strangers in the sea. Those selling their boats should inform the Fisheries Department and the Coastal Security Police Wing.
