Melbourne, Feb 1 (UNI) Admitting that lack of responsibility on the part of batsmen led to India's defeat, skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni today said ''The batsmen did not know their roles, they tried to play too many strokes and before we realised it was too late.'' On the other hand Dhoni's Australian counterpart Michael Clarke praised his players for the tremendous show and added ''We were very well prepared. We had done extensive preparation on the Indian team and our execution was spot on. We executed it the way we wanted it.'' The two were talking to media after the T20 match which virtually turned out to be a no-contest with host thrashing the World Champions by nine wickets.

Dhoni was of the view that he went into the match with one batsman short. ''We played a batsman short and the guys needed to take up the responsibility.'' He described the wicket as slow and low and that created lot of problems for the indian batsmen. ''It was a low and slow track and before batsmen could come to terms with it, it was too late.'' He assured that his team will discuss today's failure and promised a better showing in the triangular series saying ''The guys can bounce back. It's a test of character and I think they have it.'' About the crowd he said, ''The crowd was noisy but I don't think the boys were distracted by it. In smaller towns, you get nastier crowd than you get in international matches.'' Clarke was very thrilled with the win and said ''You would see such performance more and more from the Australian team. We want to be the best Twenty20 team in the world and we have just beaten the world champions.'' UNI XC HSB RAR RAI2022
