Shimla, Feb 1 (UNI) The Congress today opposed the Himachal Pradesh Government's decision to allow government employees' participation in RSS shakas and said it was a ''wrong decision taken in haste''.
Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president Viplove Thakur told UNI here that the decision had been taken to benefit a special category of employees and was most unfortunate.
''Although the RSS claims it to be a social organisation, but its interference in the BJP Government is well known. This decision indicates the level of its interference and involvement in governance and does not argue well for the state,'' she said.
Ms Thakur said the government employees should not take part in active politics and those with personal commitments should not be allowed to exhibit them in public.
The new BJP Government led by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal had ordered the lifting of ban on holding RSS shakhas (camps) at public places, besides permitting the government servants to participate in the shakhas and other activities of the Sangh Parivar, soon after coming to power a month ago.
Earlier, the previous Congress Government had put a ban on organising shakhas in public places besides banning government employees from attending such shakas.
