New Delhi, Feb 1 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a rally on Friday demanding the sacking of the Congress Government in Haryana for its alleged failure to prevent illegal kidney transplants.

BJP activists gathered on streets carrying banners and placards and shouting slogans against the Haryana Administration.

The multi-billion-rupee kidney scandal was unearthed recently at Gurgaon in Haryana, a satellite township on the outskirts of New Delhi.

BJP's National Secretary Vijay Goel slammed the Haryana Chief Minister and his administration and demanded that he should be removed from office.

"We are holding this protest here to pressurize the Union government to take action against Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Haryana Chief Minister and his administration and police for their failure (to prevent illegal kidney transplants) by sacking them, if not, their resignation should be given in," Goel said.

Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss has favoured an investigation by the CBI into the illegal trans-national kidney transplant racket having also international links.

Meanwhile, Haryana Home Secretary K S Bhoria said on Friday that the State Government had written a letter to the Centre urging it to hand over the probe into the kidney scandal to the CBI.

A red corner notice has been issued by the Interpol against suspected kidney racket kingpin Dr. Amit Kumar and his brother Dr Jeevan Kumar.

Dr. Amit Kumar has been absconding ever since the police busted his illegal kidney trade.

Police had earlier detained five other suspects including a doctor for allegedly luring poor donors from Uttar Pradesh and coercing them to sell their kidneys.

According to police those involved are believed to have illegally sold about 500 kidneys in the past six years at prices ranging from 50,000-100,000 rupees for each kidney.

There have been many instances before also of such kind of organ trade and the buyers have been mostly the affluent Indian diaspora and foreign nationals, shelling out a few millions for the transplant.
