400 girls to attend selection trials at Usha School

Kozhikode, Feb 1 (UNI) As many as 400 budding talents from various parts of the country and Sri Lanka will appear for selection trials at the prestigious Usha School of Athletics (USHA) in Koilandi, near here, from tomorrow.

The participants were from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Kerala and four from the island nation, USHA Chairperson and former sprint queen P T Usha told UNI.

Apart from herself, the selection panel included Sports Authority of India Coach J S Bhatia and former international athlete Francis Mecheri, she said.

Trials for girls born in 1994-95 would be held tomorrow and for those born in 1995-96 would be held on February three, Usha said.

Selected aspirants would be provided with sports training by experts, school education, boarding and lodging and sports kits.

Work on the new hostel building and synthetic track of the school at Kinalur in the district was nearing completion and it would be shifted to the new premises by this April. At present, the school was functioning from a rented premises at Koilandi.

Tendering process for the Sports Medicine Centre and gym were on, she added.
