Yamunanagar, Jan 31 (UNI) Three Haryana cops were suspended today after an inter-state criminal gang's leader escaped from police custody last night.
According to IG Police K K Sindhu, who rushed here this morning on receiving the reports of Manjesh, alias Monu, escaping from the CIA custody, a case of negligence has been registered against ASI Gurnam Singh and head constables Dharampal and Angrez Singh.
Ironically, Dharampal had played a key role in nabbing Manjesh, who was nabbed along with his seven co-accused on January 25 in connection with various cases of murder, drug smuggling and dacoity, the most recent being the dacoity of Rs 25 lakh from a local plywood owner while he was returning home with the money from Delhi.
While his associates were lodged in the jail, he was being separately interrogated by CIA 2.
He reportedly escaped under the cover of darkness after jumping off from a window when the poilcemen on duty had gone to fetch food.
The suspended cops were produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate Kanchan Mahi. The court granted them bail.
Meanwhile, another police officer, Randhir Singh, then posted in Yamunanagar and believed to be hands in glove with the notorious inter-state gang, would also arrested, Mr Sindhu said.
