Bangalore, Jan 31: People, hit hard by gastroenteritis due to water contamination at Bharatinagar in Cantonment area in the city, continued to increase in private and government hospitals with the total number of those affected rising to over 600.

While about 40 people, including 12 children, had been admitted to hospitals, others were treated as outpatients, Bruhut Bangalore Mahanagarapalike (BBMP) Chief Medical Officer L T Gayatri told to the sources. BBMP continued its door-to-door campaign in the area with medical supervisors visiting homes and appraising the occupants of measures to be taken, in case they encounter health problems.

Health desks had been set up in hospitals where doses of ORS were given to the affected. In case of diarrhoea, patients were put on intravenous fluids. Posters had also been put up, Ms Gayatri added.
