Conman using multiple identities to get credit cars, cars arrested

New Delhi, Jan 31 (UNI) The Delhi Police's Crime Branch have arrested a notorious cheat, who defrauded various banks and finance companies of over Rs one crore by taking credit cards and home and car loans from them on various fake identities.

Manoj Kumar Shastri, who posed as Dr Indra Bhan Arya of the Maulana Azad Medical College and under various other names, had a total of at least ten fake identities. A former engineer with the BSES, he had also opened a fake company in a posh area of the capital and then opened various accounts in different banks and obtained several credit and debit cards from them for his purported employees.

For his nefarious purposes, he used to transfer money from account to another to obtain plush bank statements and utilised them for financing as many as nine different cars, most of which he sold.

A car, a motorcycle -- both obtained fraudulently, two electronic data clearing machines, 56 cheque books, four credit cards, 17 debit cards, 40 fake stamps of senior government functionaries and a bunch of voter cards, PAN cards, driving licences and identity cards in various identities, and fake salary slips of various government departments and private companies were seized from his possession.

Shastri has been arrested twice earlier for similar offences but began afresh after being released on bail. His wife Sunita was also an accomplice in his fraudulent activities.

He has been remanded to police custody for detailed investigation.
